Godzilla Joins Magic The Gathering Card Game

The world’s most famous kaiju is joining the world’s most popular card game: Magic: The Gathering. Hasbro-owned Wizards of the Coast, in collaboration with Toho Co., Ltd. has unveiled the collection Magic: The Gathering – Godzilla Series cards from the soon-to-be-released Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths expansion set.

Godzilla will be bringing some of his besties to the card game, including Mothra, King Ghidorah and more to the world of Magic’s Planeswalkers. Like, what are the odds that a diehard fan of Gojira is also a Magic player? I am guessing not a lot, but I am very sure diehard fan will be snapping the game just because of the King of the Monsters.

Anywho… there will be a total of 16 Godzilla Series Monster cards in English. The Japanese variant will get additional three cards. To get the Godzilla, Kind of The Monsters, you will have pick up the draft booster pack at Wizards Play Network store. It is blind pack, each containing a random Godzilla Series Monster card. Ugh.

In addition, Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths Collector Boosters will also come with two random Godzilla Series Monster cards. Note, these cards will NOT appear in draft booster packs. That’s not it. Godzilla Series Monster cards will also be found in Magic: The Gathering Arena as card styles. Yup. Even digital!

That’s kind of awesome for those who needs to have it all. But that means more money to spend and if I can be honest, it is not the wise time to spend unnecessary. Just saying… but hey, if you such a big of fan and have the reserves to drop, you can buy the Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths bundles of six or more booster packs inside the Magic: The Gathering Arena client to get the aforementioned card styles.

Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths is set to release on April 16 on Magic: The Gathering Arena. Global retail store release will follow on May 15.
