Chrissy Teigen Encourage Son Miles to ‘Embrace’ His Emotions: ‘There’s No Right Way to Be a Man’

Chrissy Teigen is raising her two-year-old son, Miles, to be comfortable with his emotional nature. The cookbook author and mom opened up about her parenting philosophy to People and described her encouraging approach with her young son.

Instead of reinforcing tired gender norms, Teigen has pledged to teach her son and embrace his emotions.

Chrissy Teigen’s Home Is Not a Place You Will Ever Hear the Phrase, ‘Be a Man.’

“Miles is very emotional. He’s a lot like me too,” explained Teigen, who also has a daughter Luna, 4, with husband John Legend. “He wears his heart on his sleeve, and we embrace that. I think more men should embrace their emotions. I think that’s really important in this world. That it’s okay to cry, and it’s okay to be upset about something or to be sad about something. We’re going to talk it through and it’s okay.”

“There is no ‘Be a man’ in our house,” she elaborated. “There’s no right way to be a man, and John is so good about showing them through how he treats me how to be a good man, how to be a good father. It’s wonderful to see.”

She also spoke about Luna who is “exactly” like Teigen, in Teigen’s telling.

“She is a bit of a perfectionist which I didn’t know I was until the past few years,” Teigen told People. “I’m trying to tell her that not everything — it’s funny because when I talk to her, I’m actually talking to myself too — not everything has to be perfect and there is joy and beauty in imperfections, and don’t be so hard on yourself. And that’s me talking to myself when I tell her that stuff.”

“I’m an open, free spirit and I love kids to be kids,” Teigen said of her parenting style.

“For us, kindness is such a big thing. When you meet our kids, they’re very warm and friendly. You instill those things in them, but for the most part let them be creative and wondrous and spirited and curious beings.”

As part of People‘s cover story, Teigen also spoke about the loss of her third child, who tragically died in September. The devastating loss has made a huge impact on her and altered her own reality. She told the outlet that she will never be able to carry a child again.

“Coming to terms with not being able to carry again is still really difficult for me because I feel so healthy,” she explained to People. “I’m like, why? But then I think about it as my uterus is just not cooperating with me — and it’s not a failure.”

In addition to advocating on behalf of those who seek IVF fertility treatments, Teigen also shared the way she intends to memorialize the child she lost, who she named Jack.

In her new home that’s under construction, plans are in place for a tree to be planted inside of it. The memorial will act as a memory-building symbol for Miles and Luna to create memories with Jack’s spirit.

“It’s important for us in Thai tradition that we always embrace the ones we’ve lost, and they’re never, ever gone,” Teigen explained. “This tree being planted inside the home, the whole reason why I wanted it was so Jack’s ashes could be in that soil and he could be with us all the time and grow through the beautiful leaves in this tree.”

Chrissy Teigen is such an inspiration and is carving out a space for herself as a progressive advocate and parent who is putting the needs of her children ahead of common wisdom. We hope that others heed her advice and raise all their children, no matter their sex, to embrace their emotions.
