Four Fascinating Facts About F1 Ferrari

If asked about their dream super car 99% of guys would probably respond with a sentence that begins with Ferrari. This world leader manufacturer has defined generation after generation of car lovers and it continues to outperform on both the roads and upon the F1 track.

However there are some things that even the most avid of Ferrari fans may not know, and here we fill you in on Four Fascinating Facts about F1 Ferrari that you may have missed.

1. The £1 million dollar car

The 2002 Enzo Ferrari model was the ultimate honorary model to the manufacturer’s founder. Only 400 were ever built, with each created upon F1 technology. However it seems that all too many of the new owners were far from F1 trained, as to date 14 Enzo’s have been written off (at one million dollars a pop, no less!).

2. The pioneering of semi-automatic transmission

Designed by John Barnard, the Tipo 640 of 1989 was the first F1 car to pioneer semi-automatic transmission. It took three years to design and boasted a shape that maximised aerodynamic efficiency, as well as a supercharged 660 break horse power. And on its very first appearance Nigel Mansell reigned victorious at the Brazilian GP (little wonder when you have one world leading 3.5 litre V12 under the bonnet, coupled with the hottest of racing talent!).

3. Today’s Ferrari president – who has serious employment credentials

Today the president of Ferrari is Luca di Montezemolo, who is notably part of the Fiat-owning Angelli family. Not only was Montezemolo Enzo Ferrari’s right hand man between 1973 and 1977, but he was also in sole charge of managing the F1 team at the tender age of 26, even being the driving force behind Niki Laud’s infamous World Championship journey. No those are what we call serious employment credentials!
