Sarah Jessica Parker on Aging, Her Old Fashion Choices, and How She Keeps Her Skin Glowing

Sarah Jessica Parker is just like all of us in that she will look back at her style over the years and some of it makes her cringe. Yes, even the queen of fashion cringes at some of her earlier outfit choices.

Additionally, when it comes to aging, the actress is doing so gracefully. From allowing her gray hair to grow, to walking around New York City fresh and bare-faced, Sarah Jessica Parker makes you feel good about allowing nature to take its course.

While Vogue’s cover star a few months ago, SJP talked about some of her wardrobe choices back in the 80s, and her longtime make-up artist, Elaine Offers, spoke about some of her secrets to keeping SJP’s skin glowing in her 50s.

As Offers explained, there is prep that comes with keeping the actress’s skin fresh. “She comes to work in the morning with clean, toned, exfoliated, and lightly moisturized skin,” the artist explains. “For her very sensitive skin, only fragrance-free products are used. She’s been a fan of La Roche-Posay Toleriane Sensitive Fluide for many years.”

La Roche-Posay is an easily attainable product as well. It is sold in stores like Target and on Amazon.

As Offers continues, she tells Vogue that she “recently introduced her to one of my favorite products, Koh Gen Do Moisture Spa Gel Rich. I use Koh Gen Do Moisture Foundation with no powder on top, followed by Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate. I use the illuminating cream on her high points. I also only use cream blush on her. Stila Convertible Colors, Milk Lip, and Cheek Cream Blush Sticks, and a new favorite, Merit Cream Blush in Cheeky.”

And just like Sarah Jessica Parker, Offers enjoys aging honestly, especially in the face of how vain Hollywood can be. “Having clients of all ages, I enjoy and appreciate a more honest, natural face. I think there are so many products and procedures that can help maintain collagen production, zap spots, and capillaries. I think good nutrition, sleep, managing stress, and lots of sunscreen all helps too.”

In a video produced by Vogue, SJP pokes fun at herself for some of her fashion choices from back in the 80s, 90s, and beyond. From her thrift shop choices that made it to the red carpet to her hairstyles, many of them done by herself, Parker covers it all.

You can watch the video in its entirety below:

However, while she poked fun at herself at times, she also addressed those who have criticized some of her fashion choices as well. “I think I’ve seen criticism of it. Enjoy, have fun,” she said to the critics.

But, she adds, “what’s the point of the criticism? We’re all just making an attempt every day, to offer ourselves up to another person.”

And when it comes to aging, Sarah Jessica Parker has some thoughts. While talking with Prevention late last year, she admitted that at 56 she has no choice in the matter.

“There’s so much misogynist chatter in response to us that would never. Happen. About. A. Man,” Parker said. “‘Gray hair, gray hair, gray hair. Does she have gray hair?’”

“I don’t know what to tell you, people! Especially on social media. Everyone has something to say. ‘She has too many wrinkles, she doesn’t have enough wrinkles.’ It almost feels as if people don’t want us to be perfectly OK with where we are as if they almost enjoy us being pained by who we are today, whether we choose to age naturally and not look perfect, or whether you do something if that makes you feel better.”

But it’s the fact of life, aging, and what is she to do about it? “Stop aging,” or “disappear,” she questions.
