A Massachusetts library is having to issue the rather obvious reminder to patrons that Chuck E. Cheese tokens are not an acceptable form of payment for overdue book fines, reports the AP. "This summer we’ve had a surge of folks attempting to pay fines and printing fees with tokens from Chuck E. Cheese and (Peabody amusement center) Bonkers," Peabody Institute Library in Danvers, Mass., posted on Facebook this week. "Since they are not legal tender, we cannot accept them." Bookkeeper Sue Kontos tell the Salem News she had counted three Chuck E. Cheese tokens one day before realizing they weren't real money. "Everyone got a laugh out of it," she says. "They are the size of quarters, so you have to pay attention," adds acting library director Jennifer McGeorge. Chuck E. Cheese has been phasing out the use of coins. (More strange stuff stories.)
