L is for Leafy Tree {Preschool Alphabet}

Sharing is caring!

I cannot get enough of all the fun leaf projects on Pinterest these days!  There’s just something about Autumn and all those beautiful colors that sends a smile straight to my face.  Our little ones are  too small for many of the projects, but I did find one that the kids loved.  Join me as we make an adorable hand print leaf tree.

I picked up some wooden letters from somewhere (I think from Casey’s Wood Products) and we use these to introduce the letter that coordinates with whatever project we’re doing.  I try to decorate it a bit to fit with the theme.  Here’s the “L” we created for all our leaf projects!

This has been working great and my two-year old can now recognize “M” from our Monster projects and “D” from our Dinosaur adventures (post coming soon!). These hands-on activities pair so well with our alphabet printables for letting recognition and reinforcement.

But, back to the project at hand!

What You Need:

What You Do:

Trace child’s hand onto the brown construction paper.  Give them a pile of scrap paper and show them how to apply it on the tree.  Stand back and enjoy the show!

Tracing the Hand

Perhaps you remember how much my daughter loves the glue stick?

Chipmunk found some longer scraps and her tree took on a life of its own!  She also swiped some of the shapes I was creating for a future project while I wasn’t looking, so her tree got a really unique look!

Finished!

More great leaf-themed activities!
