A Japanese man returning to his homeland from Colombia with 246 bags of cocaine inside him died en route. Authorities in Mexico say the man, identified as 42-year-old "Udo N," began having a seizure after the Aeromexico flight from Bogota to Tokyo made a stopover in Mexico City, AFP reports. The flight made an emergency landing in Hermosillo, Sonora state, where paramedics boarded the plane and declared the passenger dead, the local coroner's office said in a tweet.

Authorities say the man died of a cerebral edema—swelling of the brain—caused by a drug overdose, reports the BBC. The bags of cocaine, measuring around 1 inch by 0.4 inches, were found in his stomach and intestines during the autopsy. Authorities say the flight, with the remaining 198 passengers, departed after the body was removed. (In 2015, authorities found cocaine pellets in the stomach of an Aer Lingus passenger who went berserk and bit another passenger before dying mid-flight.)
