Holy Crap, Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor Is Officially On

Yes, the ridiculous Floyd Mayweather–Conor McGregor match-up no one could believe would happen is definitely happening. McGregor confirmed this in a tweet, taking a jab at Floyd’s age by running a picture of his father and trainer, Floyd Mayweather Sr. 

Mayweather himself, who is an overwhelming favorite to beat McGregor in a boxing match, responded in kind:

Yahoo Sports reports the boxing match between the retired champ and the MMA superstar is set for August 26, 2017 in Las Vegas. Naturally, it’ll be broadcast on Showtime pay-per-view.   

UFC head Dana White tells Yahoo that this clash of generations and contact sports stars will rock the T-Mobile Arena. Fighting weight for both men: 154 lbs. Significantly for McGregor, perhaps, it’s set to be an all-boxing event promoted by Mayweather Promotions.

McGregor is an absolute longshot here, even to diehard MMA fans. Just over two months out, the Irishman is virtually no one’s predicted winner and “Money” Mayweather, who at 49-0 is widely considered the most skilled boxer of his generation, has been given an overwhelming plus-650 chance to win. 

Either way, it’s looking as though Mayweather will walk away with a cool $100 million and McGregor will pull down somewhere in the neighborhood of $25 million for his trouble. There are worse ways to end up soundly outboxed in Vegas before millions of fight fans. 

And hey, at least UFC boss Dana White is happy.
