Drinking Two Cups Of Coffee Per Day Can Undo Alcohol Damage To Liver, Study Says

Trending News: Two Cups Of Coffee Can Save Your Liver From All That Booze You Drink

Why Is This Important?

Because a good dose of coffee can ease the damage of a boozy night out.

Long Story Short

Scientists at the University of Southampton have claimed that drinking two cups of coffee every day can greatly reduce your risk of suffering from liver cirrhosis and can help remedy the damage done by toxins such as alcohol.

Long Story

In a study published in the journal Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics that will be welcomed by coffee connoisseurs everywhere, scientists have found that drinking two cups of coffee per day can almost halve your chances of getting cirrhosis of the liver.

Liver cirrhosis is a very dangerous condition caused by toxins damaging the liver. It is often brought about by frequent excessive drinking and caused the death of musical legend Jimi Hendrix amongst many others. In fact, it kills around a million people per year.

But it turns out that if you’re revving your liver a little too hard, the answer may lie in your local coffee shop.

Researchers from the University of Southampton have conducted a massive review of nine long-term studies into liver cirrhosis that covered six countries and a total of 500,000 men and women and found that coffee has a very positive effect on the liver.

In fact, regular coffee consumption (two cups of coffee per day) seems to reduce the risk of liver cirrhosis by as much as 44%, making it more effective than some medications, such as statins, given for the disease which are only 25% effective.

The study’s authors are quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: “In the context of liver disease, coffee appears to confer a number of protective effects. Furthermore, unlike many medications, coffee is generally well tolerated and has an excellent safety profile.”

This news is another boost for coffee as more and more scientists suggest that it is good for you rather than a guilty pleasure. In fact it was finally deemed beneficial by the U.S.D.A. last year and is believed to reduce the risk of diseases ranging from diabetes to Alzheimer’s.

So, it seems like the best way to make things up to your liver after a big night out is to take it out for coffee….
