If you need the capability of four-wheel drive, you’ll also be happy to hear that the Ranger 4×4 is rated at 20 mpg city, 24 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined, which is better than all its gas-powered rivals.

“Midsize truck customers have been asking for a pickup that’s Built Ford Tough,” said Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager. “And Ranger will deliver with durability, capability and fuel efficiency, while also providing in-city maneuverability and the freedom desired by many midsize pickup truck buyers to go off the grid.”

While its rivals, like the Chevy Colorado and Toyota Tacoma offer V6 engines, the 2019 Ford Ranger is powered exclusively by a turbocharged EcoBoost 2.3L four-cylinder engine with 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft. of torque. The four-cylinder is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 2019 Ford Ranger will officially arrive in showrooms in January.
