The embattled tenure of New York City owner James Dolan has taken another turn.
According to Marc Hogan of Pitchfork, Dolan is being sued by a MSG shareholder who claims that he spends too much time performing with his band.
“Shareholders claim that Dolan ‘works at MSG only part time,’ with much of his focus going toward touring and recording as the frontman and guitarist for his band JD,” the suit claims.
A noted musician, Dolan has been under pressure to sell the Knicks. It’s something that he’s pushed back against, even as the owner continues to struggle from a public relations standpoint.
The suit claims that MSG has paid Dolan a total of nearly $76 million over the past three fiscal years. For comparison’s sake, CEOs at similar companies have earned an average of $17 million annually.
The complaint alleges that Dolan and his band, JD & the Straight Shot, toured too many times for him to be considered a full-time employee. Back in 2017, the group performed in six countries and 41 cities.
