50 Years of Porsche: Rolling Stone x Porsche 911 Experience

50 Years of the Porsche 911

What I like about memories is that they encapsulate a happy moment in time that can never be replicated. We’ll always remember our first kiss, our first love and undoubtedly, our very first car. There’s something about your first automobile that sticks with you.

Driving your car with the windows down while your favorite song is playing on the stereo is a feeling unlike any other. The sound of a car engine and great music are two things that go together like a tweed jacket and the fall season.

A few weeks ago I was invited to the Rolling Stone x Porsche 911 Experience, an immersive look at the last 50 years of the Porsche 911. The event took guests back in time; complete with iconic Porsche cars, live music, memorabilia, games, cocktails and era-inspired bites.

A spirited night filled with three floors of interactive, period-inspired vignettes. Each floor touched a different year of the iconic Porsche 911. Guests were taken back to a time when they were younger. Rehashing the old memories of their childhoods and subtly reminded them that through it all, Porsche has been making the 911 for nearly five decades!

The Porsche 911 has always been a sports car that men have aspired to own. With their iconic design and rich racing history, owning a 911 is the dream of anyone who really loves driving. When you think of Porsche you ultimately associate them with their rear-heavy body style, bug-eyed headlights and iconic air-cooled flat-six engine that also sits in the back of the car. There’s no other car that sound and drives quite like it.

While the event was meant to celebrate their newest addition to the 911 family, I admit that I spent most of the night gawking at what Porsche has produced in its past. Vintage cars speak to me because I value the innovation that came before the computers and technologies of today. These cars were built for one simple reason: to drive.

I cherished the opportunity learning about Porsche’s history and seeing where all their newest innovations have brought the company today. Albeit, I may never get the chance to own one of these fine machines, there’s no doubt that I’m thankful to have seen them in person and understand what makes them so special.

Would you own a Porsche 911? If not, what’s your dream car?

Thanks, as always, for reading.

Stylishly Yours,
