Valerie Bertinelli is Officially a Single Woman After Her Divorce From Tom Vitale is Finalized

On November 22, 2022, Valerie Bertinelli was sitting in the middle of an airport on her way to see her son, Wolfgang Van Halen, when she received a call from her lawyer. Normally, that would frighten an individual as it’s a phone call most people aren’t looking forward to receiving, but that wasn’t the case with Valerie.

The former One Day at a Time and Hot in Cleveland actress learned that her divorce to financial planner Tom Vitale has been signed by a judge – meaning the divorce is finalized and they can finally go about their separate ways. The divorce was originally filed by Valerie Bertinelli on November 24th of last year.

Calling it ‘the second best day of my life,’ Valerie announced the exciting news to her 567,800 Twitter followers in a video posted on Tuesday. She seemed visibly excited and relieved before saying she’s ‘happily divorced.’ It was her second marriage and second divorce – this one lasting 10 years.

“I’m at the airport, about to go see Wolfie,” she said in a video, referring to her son Wolfgang Van Halen. “My lawyer just called. The papers are all signed. They’re about to be filed. On 11/22/22, I am officially f****** divorced. Happily divorced. God. Finally. It’s finally over. Yes!” she said in a video on Twitter.

As part of the divorce, Valerie Bertinelli must pay Tom Vitale $2.2 million and, as long as she pays by December 31st, he must vacate her home in Malibu, California – this is in addition to the $500,000 she paid Vitale in May. If she doesn’t pay the money, then he can continue living at the home rent-free.

According to court documents, the two signed a prenuptial agreement prior to their marriage. Bertinelli filed for legal separation in November 2021 before filing for divorce on May 12. The specifics behind the reasoning of the divorce is unknown, but Bertinelli cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ in court documents.

Valerie met Tom through a mutual friend in 2004. They announced their engagement six years later and got married on New Year’s Day in 2011. They have no children together – though they both have children from previous relationships. Their marriage lasted a decade, but it couldn’t stand the ultimate test of time.

Back in June, Valerie Bertinelli did an interview with TODAY’s Hoda Kotb – a month after filing her second divorce. She shared that she has no intention of looking for love, largely ‘because of the challenges that I’m going through right now, because divorce sucks. I can’t imagine ever trusting anyone again.’

“I am gonna be more than happy to be happily divorced and spend the rest of my life alone. I’ll be happy that way. Well, with my six cats and my dog and my son, and hopefully one day grandchildren,” she told Kotb back in June, adding she has ‘some trust issues that I’m sure I’m going to have to get past.’

Speaking of grandchildren, that might be happening sooner rather than later. Her son, Wolfgang Van Halen, announced his engagement to his longtime girlfriend, Andraia Allsop, on July 6, 2022. A date hasn’t been revealed yet, but one can only assume the couple will be welcoming children in the future.
