Their paths cross again! Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan had a reunion on Good Morning America on Tuesday, September 6, and it was too adorable for words.
Hanks, 60, was sitting down with Robin Roberts in the GMA studio to discuss his new film Sully, which tells the story of the pilot who landed a plane in NYC’s Hudson River. Meanwhile, Ryan, 54, was right outside in Times Square promoting her directorial debut, Ithaca.
“I’m telling you, you came this close to having America’s sweethearts reunited on the set of Good Morning America. Who books this show? There’s Meg now,” Hanks said, catching sight of her through the window. “I love you, sweetie! Sweetie, I love you. I’ll find you. I’ll wait for you. I’ll meet you in the park. Let’s have hot dogs at that thing by the place with the deal, and we’ll get to know each other again,” he jokingly called out.
The frequent costars appeared together in 1990’s Joe Versus the Volcano, 1993’s Sleepless in Seattle and 1998’s You’ve Got Mail. Hanks also has a brief cameo in Ithaca as the late husband of Ryan’s character.
- During Ryan’s interview with Michael Strahan (who was making his full-time GMA debut), she shared a touching anecdote about the Forrest Gump star. “He did me the craziest favor ever. He came for, like, a day,” the actress said of his Ithaca role. “He’s so adorable that he, like, gathered the crew around after the 10 hours that he worked and said, ‘I’m so happy that we got to know each other so well in these last 10 hours, but thank you for being here for my friend Meg.’ So adorable.”
It seems the GMA cohosts eventually brought the two actors together in the same room: The morning show later aired footage of Hanks and Ryan hugging and chatting as a crowd, including Roberts and Strahan, looked on.
