Robert Griffin III's tenure in Cleveland could be over before it even got started

Looks like this one-time face of the NFL is again done for the season

RG3's resurgence in Cleveland has just gone the way of his entire career—-a complete and utter anticlimax.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Griffin III is expected to miss 10-12 weeks with a shoulder injury, which effectively puts an end to his 2016 season.

The fourth-year Heisman Trophy winner initially downplayed the injury he suffered in the Browns Week 1 loss to the Eagles, calling it a minor injury. Several days later, he was placed on IR, which had him out for at least eight weeks.

Now the Browns are back to where they began, with 37-year-old Josh McCown, and the front office appears to have committed a two-year, $15 million blunder. Unless they decide to release Griffin at the end of the season, in which case the team would only be responsible for $1.75 million of that.

In any event, Griffin's time in Cleveland looks to already be over. Given his fragile history coupled with his underwhelming performance against Philly—-he connected on 12-of-26 for 190 yards and one pick—-cutting him loose and pursuing a quarterback in next year's draft would make the most sense. As for Griffin, you just can't help but wonder if his brilliant 2012 Rookie of the Year season is how he'll always be remembered. And if his epilogue might be the next thing written about him.
