Updated Circa-1755 Cottage in Clinton Asks $349K

The tiny-home trend wasn’t invented by hipsters on Pinterest. Thrifty Puritans favored small houses because they were cheaper to build and heat; so did many of our state’s first suburbanites, whose homes bunked a couple of kids per bedroom and a bath-and-a-half for the entire family. And while loads of modest capes and simple ranches have been torn down, there are two vintage cottages on the market that are both scaled-down and stylish.

In Clinton, a couple of restaurateurs are selling their cute-as-a-button, circa-1755 cottage, measuring just 1,313 square feet. Cookbook co-authors Melissa Pellegrino and Matthew Scialabba own the popular Bufalina in Guilford, famous for its wood-fired pizzas. The ridiculously attractive foodies have listed their equally attractive home, located about 10 miles from their restaurant. Not surprisingly, the kitchen has top-of-the-line Viking appliances, marble countertops and a sweet breakfast bar. There’s a first-floor master suite with two closets by California Closets and sliding doors that open onto the patio. The second floor includes another bedroom and a space suitable for a third bedroom or nursery, as well as the plumbing needed to add a third bathroom. If this sounds like your kind of picturesque lifestyle, there’s good news: The move-right-in cottage asks just $349,900. Tina Rupp of William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty has the listing.
