Floyd Mayweather Says He’s ‘Officially Out of Retirement’ to Fight Conor McGregor

Somebody do something or quit talking about it.

Look, when it comes to one-time boxing champ Floyd Mayweather fighting UFC superstar Conor McGregor, we’ll believe it when we see it at this point. These guys have been going round and round for what seems like years now and yet—aside from mysterious moves such a McGregor getting a California boxing license—there’s no real news of a scheduled fight.

It all feels like a show just to keep their names in the news. Then again, if you watch the FightHype.com video above, it sure seems like Floyd is making his most declarative statement yet regarding taking on the motormouthed Irish MMA champ.

Mayweather says he doesn’t “want to hear no more excuses about the money, about the UFC” from McGregor’s camp. “Sign the paper with the UFC so you can fight me in June,” Money Mayweather continues, “Simple and plain. Let’s fight in June (…) I’m tired of all this crying about money and talking about you want to fight. You blowing smoke up everybody’s ass. If you want to fight, sign the paperwork, let’s do it!”

Then he drops this bomb: “Today, I’m officially out of retirement for Conor McGregor.” He goes on to say they shouldn’t waste any time and “need to make this shit happen quickly.”

In the end this is about who might pull down a bigger purse from the fight, and that’s an equation likely to work out in Mayweather’s favor. McGregor, perhaps just as smart and savvy about negotiating to get what he wants, likely knows this and has been turning things around to make it seem like Floyd’s the one doing the stalling.

In this video, Mayweather seems to make it clear that’s not the case at all.

Look, we’d watch this battle just to see what the hell goes down, sure, but at this point plenty of fans are probably in the put up or shut up school regarding both men.

We’ll see what happens in June—or if anything happens at all.
