Photos of the week: 8/31 - 9/7

Updated

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation hearings began this week. Kavanaugh, a federal appeals court judge, promised to be a "team player" and a "pro-law judge." The proceedings were interrupted by protesters numerous times, including activists who dressed up as characters from Hulu's dystopian TV series "The Handmaid's Tale." A moment between Trump's nominee and the father of a student killed in the Parkland school shooting also went viral. Fred Guttenberg tried to introduce himself, but Kavanaugh turned and was led away without shaking his hand.

Other major headlines of the week included Ayanna Pressley defeating 10-term Rep. Michael Capuano in a Boston-area Democratic primary, a New York Times op-ed by an anonymous White House "senior official" and a fire that destroyed the National Museum of Rio de Janeiro.
