This week at a media event in Los Angeles, Sony unveiled their Z9D television series. Between its 4K resolution, High Dynamic Range and proprietary Backlight Master Drive technology, it promises the best clarity, detail and brightness of any TV in the industry—possibly even rivaling that offered by OLEDs.

Its fancy processor analyzes the images in each scene and corrects individual objects’ color and contrast to reproduce scenes with, as they say, “the detailed texture and appearance of real life.”

Using Sony’s interface, the series runs on the Android TV platform. So it runs a whole galaxy (as it were) of movies, music, games and apps. You can quickly cast your favorite content from your phone or tablet (whether it be Android or iOS) onto the big screen. And it supports natural language queries, meaning you can talk to it fairly normally when searching for stuff.

They announced that the 65-inch ($7,000) and 75-inch ($10,000) models will be available this summer.

If you have your eyes set on the 100-incher, you can probably imagine but don’t need to ask the price, which along with its availability will be announced later this year.

Stay tuned…
