Tucked into the back corner of Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park is a world that will whisk you away to the outer fringes of space. As you enter the brand new Star Wars Galaxy's Edge area you are transported to the world of Batuu, where you are free to explore the rough and tumble Black Spire Outpost. There is tension in the air, and you can feel it. Stormtroopers prowl the grounds looking for members of the resistance; don't be surprised if they stop you for questioning.
Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Batuu feels foreign. The residents of the Black Spire Outpost communicate with the Aurebesh language. All of the signage down to the labels on products that you might buy in the market use this language. Fortunately, most residents of Batuu speak Earthly languages as well. Disney really did a tremendous job of making the Star Wars Galaxy's Edge world immersive, and at night? Just Wow. That's right. The Millennium Falcon is in port, picking up supplies, making repairs, and looking for a job. If you keep your eye out, you may even run into Chewbacca as you explore your surroundings. The detail on this life sized replica is stunning; every light, system, and scar of the Millennium Falcon has been recreated with painstaking attention to detail. You can even pilot the ship!
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is one of two incredible rides within Disney's Star Wars Galaxy's Edge universe. On this ride you have the opportunity to walk the interior of the Falcon and take part in a smuggling mission. You are assigned one of three jobs; Pilot, Weapons, or Engineer. From there you enter the cockpit of the Falcon and begin your journey. You will have to fight your way through some tough spots to grab your target cargo and make a hyperspace getaway. Needless to say, it is a thrilling experience, and one you don't want to skip.
The look of the Millennium Falcon at night is…well just look at the pictures! The Disney Imagineers did a wonderful job of lighting the ship and world at night. They weaved shadows with color to really make it feel like you were on a planet far, far away.
As I mentioned earlier, there is tension in the air of Batuu. A big part of this has to do with the presence of Kylo Ren. That's right, the man himself is here and he is in a bad mood. Kylo makes his entrance to the Black Spire Outpost by stepping out of his Tie Fighter with heavy guard. He has had enough of the resistance, and he is here to stomp out the rebellion.
Be careful with what you say to Kylo; he is a bit of a hot head and is quick to force choke anyone that he finds annoying. Don't think you are safe as a Disney guest either. You are not.
Kylo and his band of stormtroopers roam the Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Black Spire Outpost, stopping many for questioning. I myself was questioned. Apparently I caught Kylo's eye by taking a picture; he did not like that and ordered his stormtroopers to surround me. Then Kylo came over and questioned me about ties to the resistance. He was convinced I was collecting intelligence for the rebels with my camera. My advice if you are stopped is this; be respectful. Do not look Kylo in the eye as he may take that as a challenge. And whatever you do, deny any and all knowledge of the resistance no matter what the truth may be. Do that and he just might let you go on your way.
You will run into Kylo and the stormtroopers again on the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance ride. On Rise of the Resistance you play the part of a rebel recruit. Unfortunately for you, Kylo Ren manages to capture you, and you must somehow escape from an Imperial Battle Cruiser. I don't want to spoil the ride for those that have not yet experienced it, but I will say this: Do Not Miss This Attraction! This is a ride that lives up to the hype; it is REALLY well done, and it is long. The entire experience takes almost 20 minutes to complete, and it is packed full of “wow”.
Who wouldn't want to take home Star Wars Galaxy Edge Best Souvenirs? Check out the best Star Wars Galaxys Edge merch. There is more to the world of Batuu than the Falcon and Kylo Ren. There is an open air market with merchants hawking the goods of the Star Wars Galaxy's Edge universe. You can build your own remote controlled Star Wars Galaxy's Edge droid over at the Droid Depot, and you can even check out Star Wars Galaxy Edge lightsaber options to build your own custom lightsaber at Savi's Workshop. If you plan on building your own lightsaber be sure to make a reservation; slots go fast for this experience.
When hunger strikes you can head over to Kat Saka's Kettle for a quick snack. For a more substantial meal, check out Docking bay 7 or Ronto Rosters. Docking Bay 7 offers a wide variety of dishes; everything from Batuuan Beef Pot Roast to Surabat Shrimp & Noodle Salad is available on the current menu, while Ronto Roasters offers wraps, sausage, and jerky.
Be sure to check out the Milk Stand as well. This legendary Batuu spot serves up farm fresh alien Bubo Wamba Family blue and green milk. These concoctions are served soft frozen, with the blue variety sporting the flavors of dragon fruit, pineapple, lime, and watermelon. The green alien milk features the flavors of mandarin orange, grapefruit, passion fruit, and orange blossom. It is worth noting that both drinks are dairy free, and the over 21 crowd can add rum or tequila if desired.
As you walk through the Black Spire Outpost, don't forget to just look around and take in the details. You will find landspeeders in the shop, droids in various states of repair, and all sorts of other Star Wars universe goodies.
Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Cantina or Oga's Cantina is another must stop while visiting Batuu, if for no other reason than to take in the atmosphere. This Black Spire Outpost spot is the Batuu version of a dive bar…except kids are allowed. Here you will find light bar snacks and drinks for all ages.
For the adults there is an extensive menu of signature mixed alcoholic drinks, beer, and wine. Non alcohol drinkers will also be delighted by the large selection of booze free refreshments as well. The food offerings are light snacks, so don't plan on making Oga's your dinner stop. Instead, stop by and enjoy a beverage while listening to the sounds of the house droid DJ.
One note about Oga's Cantina; this place is popular and they do take reservations. If you want to experience this part of the Black Spire Outpost it is highly recommended that you make a reservation as soon as you book your Disney vacation.
