Give It Up For the Russian Man Who Got Drunk, Died, And Rose From the Dead to Keep Drinking

You’ve never had a binge quite like this.

Have you ever consumed so much alcohol in one sitting that you felt like you were going to die? Sure you have — but you’ve never had a binge quite like this Russian man.

This strange tale comes to us by way of Khasanskiye Vesti, the local newspaper of a Russian town on the border with North Korea. According to the paper, a Russian man got piss drunk with his buddies, dropped dead, and “miraculously” came back to life only to find himself locked in a morgue freezer.

And what did our dead Russian friend do? He set out to pound a few more shots of vodka with his buddies while they mourned his death.

Here’s a very rough translation of the important bits of the Vesti story:

At one point, one of the companions fell dead, frightening his drinking buddies. The police arrived quickly and his body was taken to the morgue.

Late that night, a woman heard a knock at the door of the refrigerator, according to detective Alexey Stoev.

That night, the local morgue was filled to capacity. The bodies were not only on the shelves, but also on the floor of the freezer, where our dead hero lay. At some point, the man woke up and did not understand where he was. It was very dark and cold. Plus his brain was fogged by the alcohol. In the darkness, he felt the cold extremities of someone and in fear rushed to the door. But it was locked. Then the man began banging on the door with all his might.

Liberated from his frosty tomb, the man immediate made a bee-line for his friends “Revived and warmed, we took his testimony and let him go home,” Det. Stoev told Vesti. “And he went to his drinking buddies, who at the time had already arranged his wake.”

They’re reaction? “Predictable…the first one who opened the door for him fainted.”

This story is almost unbelievable, but it’s also set in Russia, so it’s just strange enough to be true. I mean, just look at this completely unrelated photo:

Here’s to you, our amazing anonymous alcoholic Russian friend. Your next vodka’s on us.
