Millennials Are Eating Laundry Detergent Thanks to the Incredibly Moronic ‘Tide Pod Challenge’

What. The. F*ck.

Printed boldly on every container of laundry detergent packs are the words, “May be harmful if swallowed.” This hasn’t stopped millennials from devouring them for the sake of another ridiculously stupid trend.

The “Tide Pod Challenge,” as it’s called, is simple. Pop one in your mouth and bite down on the seal to release the brightly-colored liquid soap and powdered detergent.

Most spit it out because—shocker—they taste terrible. I know this without ever having tried one, the same way I know that my palate would’t agree with, I don’t know, dog shit.

Others, like the two halfwits in the video below, thought Pods would make a good Absolut Vodka chaser. They don’t.

As far as viral challenges go, this one seems relatively harmless. Surely that Bass Pro Shop fish tank jumper would agree.

But I digress. There is apparently some potential for a “life-threatening” situation to develop if you actually swallow detergent.

Per USA Today:

Dr. Alfred Aleguas Jr., managing director of the Florida Poison Information Center in Tampa, said if someone mimicked the College Humor video, they could find themselves in a “life-threatening” situation.

Swallowing even a small amount of the highly-concentrated detergent found in pods can cause diarrhea and vomiting.

In some cases, some of the detergent could even find its way into the lungs and cause breathing difficulties.

Don’t do this. You could end up in the ER. Worse yet, you’ll be in this creepy-looking guy’s company:
