Just because you have a college degree doesn't mean you're going to make a lot of money. To that end, 24/7 Wall St. lists the 14 lowest-paying jobs that typically require a college degree:

  1. Legislators: So you want to change the world? That's all fine and good, but the median salary for elected officials (local, tribal, state, and federal levels are all included here) is just $20,500, making it the worst-paying job on the list. The good news: The federal government often will forgive student debt after 10 years of public service.
  2. Religious workers other than clergy and those mentioned below: The median salary is just $28,750, lower even than the median wage for all jobs—including the ones that don't require a college degree.

  1. Instructors and educators such as substitute teachers, assistant instructors, etc.: The median salary is $28,960, and there are almost 1 million of them nationwide.
  2. Proofreaders and copy markers: There are just 13,600 of them currently employed (and those numbers are going down), and their median annual wage is $35,630.
  3. Religious activities/education directors: Their median annual wage is $38,780.
  4. Education, training, and library workers: Their median annual wage is $40,380.
  5. Biological technicians: The median annual wage for these workers, who often are employed in labs, is $41,650.
