Erin Jackson Is The 1st African American Woman US Olympic Speedskater

About three weeks ago history was made on the ice when Maame Biney became the first Black woman to make the U.S. Olympic Speedskating team, qualifying for the short-track team in the 500m. This weekend she got some company as another Black woman made history and will be joining her in PyeongChang.

With her time of 39.04 seconds, Erin Jackson placed third and made the U.S. Olympic long-track speedskating team, becoming the first Black woman to make the team in that race. Scary thing is that she did it after only four months on the ice. How amazing is that?!

Hailing from Florida, the 25 year old Jackson made the switch from inline skating four months ago after crushing the competition as a three-time roller sports athlete of the year.

I really wasnt expecting it coming in, said Jackson to NBC after her race. Pretty cool.

Looks like #BlackGirlMagic continues on the ice this winter.
