Waiter admits writing 'we don't tip terrorist' on receipt after diner is falsely accused, banned

A waiter in Texas admits he wrote a racist note on a receipt after a customer was blamed and banned from the restaurant.

Khalil Cavil said he penned "we don't tip terrorist" on the bill at Saltgrass Steak House in Odessa earlier this month. He was dismissed from the eatery, and the patron was invited back to dine at no charge.

"I did write it," Cavil said told the Odessa American in an interview published Monday. "I don’t have an explanation. I made a mistake. There is no excuse for what I did."

He said he confessed to restaurant officials on Sunday. He had received $1,000 in donations on Facebook, but said "all money is being processed" and returned.

“I’m sorry," he told the newspaper. "I deeply made a huge, big mistake. And I’m in the process of getting the help that I need."

Cavil had posted a photo of the receipt, which was for $108, on his Facebook page, and it drew at least 4,000 comments as of Thursday afternoon.

“After further investigation, we have learned that our employee fabricated the entire story," Saltgrass COO Terry Turney said in a statement. "The customer has been contacted and invited back to our restaurant to dine on us. Racism of any form is intolerable, and we will always act swiftly should it occur in any of our establishments. Falsely accusing someone of racism is equaling disturbing."
