There’s nothing as fun and captivating as a good fan theory, especially when it involves two beloved Disney movies and their unforgettable heroines. The latest one we’re obsessing over? It involves the recent Disney smash, Moana, and the classic The Little Mermaid.

Tumblr user intergalactic-ashkenazi couldn’t help but notice that Moana’s plotline reminded them a lot of The Little Mermaid, except in reverse. And honestly, they’re not wrong — there are some pretty shocking similarities between the two. Or well, opposites.

The Tumblr post is making the rounds again. Some of its most notable observations include the fact that Little Mermaid's villain Ursula has a “necklace of magical importance,” while Moana, the heroine, has her own magical necklace. Also, Sebastian the crab is Ariel’s bestie, while in Moana, the crab is a bad guy. And while Moana isn’t technically a princess, she wants to go to the ocean while Ariel just wants to live on the land.

After reading the Tumblr post and having their minds similarly blown, more Tumblr users added their own theories.. The best one? User zabchan’s mention that while Ariel sings on a rock in The Little Mermaid, The Rock sings to Moana. LOL forever.

This isn’t the first time someone has compared Moana's storyline to another heroine’s; a Twitter user found striking similarities between Moana and Diana, AKA Wonder Woman, both island-dwelling badasses. In addition, BuzzFeed compared Ariel’s story to Diana’s and drew a few pretty convincing parallels there too. We’ll never watch any of these movies the same way again, TBH.
