Katie Becker is the Beauty Director for COVETEUR, the #1 place for high-end content and closet stalking. Running around town is practically in her job description, and on her busiest days, she might visit more than five NYC neighborhoods. On a typical day, Katie is meeting with brands, going to photoshoots, and writing stories, but what does she do after the work hours end? We asked the busy editor to break it down for us below.

6:30 P.M. I’m either just leaving the office or a launch event for a new product. I always take the subway, even when I’m lugging bags full of new beauty products to test. Sometimes I leave the office looking like a baggage handler. I could really use a cute backpack.

7 P.M. On my best day of the week, I go have a treatment with my longtime acupuncturist Sandra Lanshin Chiu in Williamsburg. We do a mix of needles, cupping, gua sha, and skin care work. Of course, a beauty editor would go to an acupuncturist who specializes in skin care! A rare find, but invaluable.

8 P.M. When I leave my treatment, I always feel floaty and happy. The perfect mood for a date with my boyfriend. I’ll get on the train to meet him in either the Upper East Side or Astoria where we each live, or somewhere downtown to try something new. On the train I try not to be on the phone the whole time, but take a break from the screen and really notice the people around me. New York will really make you smile if you chill and notice all the cool stuff happening around you.

8:30 P.M. I’ve been dating my boyfriend for a year and a half, and we still like to go out for real dates. We’ll always do a dinner, maybe with a drink first. We always say we can make it through an evening without any drinking, but… that’s rarely the case. I don’t get too hard on myself about it. My day is packed and it’s only healthy to celebrate at the end.

9 P.M. No matter what we’re eating we share everything and just order a million plates. I like to find places where we can get a healthy salad and seafood, but we also often end up at a really good Italian place (he’s Italian). After all the models and nutritionists I’ve interviewed over the years about their healthy eating habits, you would think I would have all the tricks down, but I’m pretty unapologetic about being the girl who cleans her plate.

9:30 P.M. However, I don’t do dessert. I find that I only have a sweet tooth when I’ve been eating sugary things, so I try not to trigger that cycle. By the time I’ve polished off some pasta and wine, I’m perfectly satisfied. I do however head home to down the Chinese herbs I take twice a day. They’re custom made by my acupuncturist Sandra to help with almost everything, including digestion, sleep, and acne breakouts. They taste disgusting, but you get used to it!

10:30 P.M. As a beauty editor, my nighttime routine is really the grand finale of the night. I’m currently using a mix of all natural and prescription skin care. I start with DHC Deep Cleansing Oil to take off all my makeup (it washes off so cleanly!) and then I massage in Marie Veronique Replenishing Oil Cleanser, which I remove with a clean towel. Any leftover oil residue is really good at breaking down built up congestion in the pores.

I follow that with either my prescription Finacea to tackle my tricky adult acne or Marie Veronique x Kristina Holey Intensive Repair Serum. After massaging that into skin, I follow up with a retinol, either Marie Veronique Gentle Retinol Night Serum or over-the-counter Differin, and, finally, top it all off with Marie Veronique x Kristina Holey Barrier Restore Serum. I’m still looking for a good eye cream—I need it!—but for now I just use all the face products around my eyes with no issue. When I crawl into bed, I usually break the no screens rule by curling around my laptop to watch The Daily Show or something on HBO. Finally, I take my selenite crystal I keep on my bedside table and put it under my pillow. It’s my little talisman for a really restful sleep.
