Boeing has developed a hypersonic plane that could theoretically circle the globe in just 3-hours, as it’s designed to use its own shockwaves to increase its speed, and could herald a new era of flight. More specifically, this “waverider” style aircraft uses the shockwaves to hit speeds of Mach 5 or higher. The development of this hypersonic plane could also change the way we engage in warfare since it would only take minutes to identify targets and prepare a defense. As a passenger plane you would be able to travel across the Atlantic in 1-hour, and anywhere across the Pacific in two hours at twice the speed of the Concorde.
