New year, new goals! The start of a new year always brings forth hope and the idea of a fresh start. Every January 1, people feel inspired to be a better version of themselves, to start that project they’ve been putting off, or to accomplish something they’ve always wanted to do. Inspiration is fresh during the first weeks of a new year!

If you want to keep that inspiration going and bring forth your best self, reading inspiring books can help that. We’ve rounded up the best books to help you start 2021 on the right foot.

You Are A Badass by Jenn Sincero

This is a classic self-help book to really light a fire under you. It instills self-esteem and teaches you how to stop doubting your greatness. If you need a little push to be your best self, this is a great place to start.

Drop the Ball: Achieving More by Doing Less by Tiffany Dufu

If you are overworked, but can’t stop adding things to your to-do list, you need to read this memoir. Dufu was the queen of doing it all and then realized how detrimental that was to her life. She addresses the myth of women having it all, female leadership, and the moment you let go, things will fall into place.

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo

This is the book that launched the decluttering movement! Kondo takes you through her reasoning behind decluttering and helps you realize which items are actually needed and which items bring you joy. It might inspire a mid-winter cleaning to get your home and belongings in order.

When God Winks At You by Squire Rushnell

God winks are an interesting concept: they are a theory that nothing in life is a coincidence, and that everything in your life is connected and meant for you. Rushnell explains how God winks happen in all areas of life and gives firsthand (and secondhand) experiences explaining how he has come to this. The stories are inspirational and feel like a warm hug.

Don’t Keep Your Day Job: How to Turn Your Passion into Your Career by Cathy Heller

Who doesn’t want to love what they do? Lots of people, now more than ever, want to take their side project and make it into something bigger. If that’s one of your resolutions for the new year, this is a book you need to read. It mixes how-to and inspiration, but either way, you will finish this book feeling revitalized to start your journey.

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

Gilbert is the author of Eat, Pray, Love — a book that took the world by storm years ago — and now, it’s time to read Big Magic. The book focuses on Gilbert’s creative process but also sets forth inspiration on how to live a creative life, how to face our fears, and embrace our curiosities. It’s filled with wonder, joy, and perspective.

Rising Strong by Brene Brown

In Rising Strong, Brown tackles the very human emotion of failure and positions it in a way that inspires everyone to lean into their failures and truly rise above them. It’s the perfect book to reposition how you look at your strengths and weaknesses.

Super Attractor: Methods for Manifesting a Life Beyond Your Wildest Dreams by Gabrielle Bernstein

If you want to focus wholly on who you are as a person in 2021, you might want to crack open this book. She discusses manifestation and learning to live more spiritually. It’ll inspire you from the inside and out.

Talking to Strangers: What We Should Know About People We Don’t Know by Malcolm Gladwell

We could all afford to understand others a bit better, which might be a goal of some this coming year. That’s where Talking to Strangers comes in. It’s meant to invoke thoughts about how you look at strangers, the news, the world, and yourself.

Atomic Habits by James Clear

If you are looking to make a true life change, you need to start a new habit. Clear introduces you to a system change and opens your eyes to how to create and stick to new habits. It’ll reshape the way you think about your success.
