We met Christopher Howe in London almost a decade ago, when we happened upon his Pimlico Road shop, one of the most atmospheric and idiosyncratic spaces we’ve seen. Howe, who makes his neighborhood rounds with dog in tow, trained as a sculptor and has been collecting rare furniture and objects for decades. His clients have included Lucien Freud, who favored his “esoterically shabby chairs to use in his portraits.”
In his shop, he sells antiques—ranging from 18th-century English country house furniture to 19th-century Arts and Crafts items to 20th-century industrial pieces—as well as his own line of custom furniture and lighting.
So when we learned he had done up a stone barn in Gloucestershire as a guesthouse for clients, we were intrigued; join us for a tour.
