Country Star Maren Morris Deletes All Photos of Her Infant Son After Mom-Shaming Incident

Musician Maren Morris, whose hit single “The Bones” has become a smash on country airwaves, recently had her first major run-in with the enemy of many women on the internet: mom-shamers.

Morris posted an adorable photo of herself with her four-month-old son, Hayes Andrew Hurd, in an inflatable raft. Instead of well-wishes and heart-eye emojis, though, Morris received a lot of mom-shaming comments from people who thought she was playing it a bit dangerous with her baby.

After sharing the photo of her and Hayes in the epic Funboy float — matching outfits and a drink in mama’s hand — Morris received many comments questioning the safety of the situation. “Gust of wind – baby is toast,” one mom-shamer wrote.

“No life jackets. Wow, just wow,” said another one.

Morris received enough negative comments that her husband and Hayes’ father, Ryan Hurd, spoke up in his wife’s defense.

“I’d just like to say,” Hurd’s response begins, “my wife usually doesn’t need me to defend her, but she’s a great mom, and my kid was not unsafe on a float in 1 feet of water being held by an adult with 5 people watching so she could get a picture.”

He also responded to the mom-shamers’ cries about the lack of life jackets in the photo, saying, “Hayes has 2 coast guard approved life jackets that he wears. Also, sometimes moms have a drink, and homegirl earned it.”

F*** yes, Ryan! Damn right, she deserves it!

And while we applaud Hurd for speaking up in defense of his wife, the damage may already have been done. Shortly after he issued his defense, Morris allegedly deleted all photos of her son from her Instagram and Twitter accounts, leaving only the image that started it all.

Morris herself has not yet said anything about the mom-shaming debacle, although maybe her removal of the photos of her son speaks louder than words.

In the end, it’s the same takeaway as always: Stop judging other moms, especially ones you don’t know. Stop projecting your own fear, anger, and beliefs on them. Let them live their lives. You know how hard it is, and how unfair people can be. You don’t deserve to be treated that way, and neither do new moms like Maren Morris.
